Sta-Rite Bobby Pinsfeaturing Sta-Rite

There are many essential tools a stylist needs on a day-to-day basis, like shears, brushes, a hair dryer. One of the most popular items, and one that many times works "behind the scenes" is the bobby pin! Bobby pins have been a staple since almost the turn of the century, to help hold hair and hairpieces in place for everything from elaborate special event updos to pinning back a simple strand of hair to frame the face. Recently, this unsung hero has begun to take center stage, placed together in multiples, as visible as a barrette, criss-crossed and inserted to form patterns on the hair. No matter how you use the bobby pin, it is important to always have a stash on hand. One of the best and most well-known bobby pins for the professional is by Sta-Rite. Their bobby pins have a dedicated following and now are available at Marlo Beauty Supply!

Sta-Rite started in 1917, selling a patented hairpin made from celluloid that resembled ivory. By 1921 Sta-Rite had developed a method of manufacturing hairpins from wire. Stylists loved the fine wire hairpins that were easy to use and stayed in the hair. In 1925, bobby pins appeared on the market and Sta-Rite designed and patented several bobby pins to satisfy the new bobbed hair that had become so popular with the movie stars. Volume grew with Sta-Rite pins until World War II which resulted in limited availability of steel wire. Sta-Rite shifted its production to supply the U.S. Defense Department with metal safety clips and arming wire for bombs. The Sta-Rite employees received an Army-Navy E Award for Excellence both in 1943 and 1944.
Following WW II, the company continued its work to provide and manufacture the finest quality bobby pins possible. Their goal is the same today as it was back in the era of flappers and bobbed hair! Sta-Rite bobby pins are iconic in the beauty industry.
