The holiday season is in full swing, and clients are looking for hair that turns heads at every party and festive gathering. This is your moment to shine - and having the right tips and techniques can make all the difference.
From sleek high ponytails and half-up/half-down styles to lived-in bangs and polished blowouts, 2025’s holiday hair trends are all about achieving stunning, party-ready hair with minimal effort and maximum impact. Below, hairstylist and educator Caidy Brasure (@caidybrasurehair) shares her best time-saving tips and tricks to help you master this year’s holiday looks!
HOLIDAY HAIR SHORTCUTS
1. FOCUS YOUR CURLS FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT
You don’t have to use a curling iron for every strand to create a gorgeous style! Caidy’s time-saving tip? Just focus on the pieces that show, especially around the face and crown. For half up styles, skip the top layers and use pins to build volume instead.
2. SMOOTH IT OUT WITH MOUSSE
If you’re short on time and can’t offer a full wash service, mousse is your go-to styling aid! Applied to dry hair, it helps create a strong foundation, adds volume and improves hold. Work it through with a round brush to refresh the hair and extend the longevity of the style.
pin it up
1. BUILD VOLUME AND TEXTURE
Pins are a stylist’s best friend when creating festive looks. Use them to build volume and texture and to create dimension, especially on fine or darker hair where details can get lost. To do this, Caidy recommends spraying a section with flexible hold hairspray and inserting the pins. Leave them in while creating the rest of your style, then remove. Strategic pinning not only enhances the style but also saves time by reducing the need to curl every section.
2. PERFECT THE PLACEMENT
When mapping out an updo, use styling pins to hold sections in place before committing to the final look. This allows you to adjust and perfect the shape as you go. Once you’re satisfied with the placement, replace the styling pins with bobby pins (tip: use the same color pins as the hair) for a secure, lasting hold.
3. BUILDING VOLUME WITH MESH
For added volume and support, incorporate a mesh insert as a lightweight foundation within the style. Mesh provides lift while reducing tension and minimizing the need for excessive pinning, particularly in the occipital area.If you don’t have a bungee to secure the mesh or extra hair, make your own with a standard elastic and two bobby pins! Secure the hair by stretching the elastic over it and anchoring each pin on opposite sides to maintain even tension and stability.
lock and shine
1. CREATING TEXTURE WITH HAIRSPRAY
Want a quick way to add controlled volume and texture? You can use a flexible hold hairspray! For this look, Caidy used hairspray as a base, then twisted the hair in the direction of the curl, misted lightly, pinched the ends and lifted to create body and texture without needing texturizing spray or powder!
2. FRAME THE FACE, THEN LOCK IT IN PLACE
To lock those face-framing pieces in place, take the front section of hair and hold it flat between your index and middle fingers. Flip it outward and lightly spritz with hairspray to create a soft, polished shape. This adds definition while keeping the style controlled and natural.
3. TAMING FLYAWAYS
Always secure flyaways at the bottom and back of an updo using hairspray or pomade. These areas are easy to overlook but make a big difference in a polished finish! If the finished look is a blowout, use hairspray sparingly. Leaving a few flyaways helps this style look natural and effortless.
Pro Tip: Lightly spritz a clean makeup brush with hairspray and use it to smooth stray pieces. For extra precision, use an edging brush or toothbrush along the hairline for a controlled finish.
